The 2022 Around The Island Race organised by the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club on 20th November finished 115 sailing yachts divided over a variety of classes, including grandprix racing yachts , performance multihulls, cruisers, beach cats, one design class, dinghies and all in between. The annual sailing event is one of the biggest inshore races in Hong Kong. The 26 NM course starts in front of the RHKYC Clubhouse at Kellett Island and goes clockwise exiting the Harbour on the East side at Lei Yu Muen gap via Shek’o Rock , Tai Tam, Stanley, Repulse Bay, Aberdeen, Cyberport and re-entering the Harbour on the West side past Green Island. It makes for a unique sailing day in one of the most spectacular harbours of the world. First yacht finished around 1400 hrs, the last at 16.40 hrs.
J/Boats in Hong Kong were well represented with 17 J/Boats participating including J/80 (10), J/70 (1), J/92 (1), J/105, J/111, J/112 and J/144. Quickest 3 J/Boats around were J/80 Jammin in 6th position, (skipper Rune ….) then J Chi in 7th position (skipper Steve McGill) and J/144 Red Eye in 13th position (skipper David Mitchell). Well done to the skippers and their crews for an excellent performance. The other J/Boats all performed well within their segments and all had a formidable racing J/day!
